Academic & Personal Support
Structure, Guidance and Support to Keep Moving Forward
At SSM Vietnam, academic and personal support work together.
Students are supported to:
manage their workload
ask for help when they need it
strengthen areas of difficulty
set meaningful goals
reflect on their progress
develop confidence in English
take greater ownership of their learning
The goal is not simply better grades. It is helping students become learners who know how to move themselves forward.
Study Hall
Boarding students have dedicated Study Hall built into their evening routine, creating a consistent time to complete homework, review lessons and prepare for the days ahead.
With a clear structure around study time, students gradually learn how to manage assignments, plan their workload and develop the discipline to study independently.
The aim is not simply to make sure homework gets finished.
It is to help students build the habits they will need when they eventually have to manage their own academic life.
Tutoring
Every student learns differently, and sometimes additional support can make an important difference.
Boarding students can access one-on-one tutoring and academic support when needed, giving them the opportunity to revisit difficult concepts, strengthen specific skills or receive more personalized guidance.
This support helps students address challenges early while also building the confidence to take the next step on their own.
English Support
For students who are still developing their English, boarding offers more opportunities to use the language throughout everyday life—not only during lessons.
Alongside dedicated English-language support, students practice communicating with teachers, staff and peers across the school day and boarding environment.
Over time, this regular exposure can help students become more confident expressing themselves, participating in class and navigating an English-speaking academic environment.
Goal-Setting
Progress is easier when students understand what they are working toward.
Students are encouraged to set goals, reflect on their progress and identify the steps they need to take next—academically and personally.
Goals might focus on:
improving a subject
building stronger study habits
managing time more effectively
developing English confidence
committing to a sport, activity or personal interest
By reviewing progress regularly, students begin to see growth as something they can actively manage rather than something that simply happens to them.
Mentoring
Sometimes students need more than an answer to a homework question.
They need someone who can help them think through a challenge, make a decision or understand what they should focus on next.
Through regular contact with teachers, boarding staff and other trusted adults, students have people around them who can offer perspective, encouragement and guidance.
Mentoring helps students connect everyday choices—how they study, manage time, respond to challenges and pursue their interests—with the person they are becoming.
Support is not about removing responsibility. It is about giving students the tools and guidance to take more responsibility for themselves.
